- 16 May 2002 - Dr Robert Goh
and Edwin Siew of the Singapore Xixabangma Expedition mountaineers
summited at 1.35pm Singapore time (11.20am Nepalese time)
today (Thursday May 16).
They started at 3am from 7,300m, ascending

in Alpine Style. All other climbers from the other teams were
climbing in conventional style.
The two men are now the first from Southeast
Asia to climb a 8000er in alpine style. The team is expected
to return to Advanced Base Camp on Sunday, 19 May 2002.
A press conference with video conference
link to the team at Advanced Base Camp is scheduled for Monday
morning, 20 May 2002. Time to be notified later. Venue of
press conference is 9th Floor, Training Room, Singapore Pools
(Paradiz Centre, Selegie Road).
