31 December, 1999 at 4am (Singapore Time), the 1st Singapore Antarctica Expedition reached the South Pole after 57 gruelling days of their trek on ice. The team led by Khoo Swee Chiow and co-leader Robert Goh and team members Major Ang Yau Choon and David Lim are in good physical condition. They were warmly welcomed and greeted by the Americans in the South Pole research centre. All the members of the South Pole team would like to thank Singaporeans for all the moral support that was shown to them during their trek; without which, they would not have been able to accomplish this objective. In so doing, the team hopes that they have contributed to Singapore's achievements for this century and give all Singaporean another reason to be proud of their country.

7 January, 2000 at 6:20 am (Singapore time), the Vinson Team of the 1st Singapore Antarctica 2000 Expedition summitted Vinson Massif. The team led by leader, Dr. Mok Ying Jang, co-leader Edwin Siew and team mate Kuak Nam Jin reached the summit on the same rope. Forty-five minutes later, they were joined by team mate Lee Ling Yen. Other than physical exhaustion, the team members are in physical good conditions, with no injury.

Dr. Mok and his team are elated that they have accomplished the expedition's objectives, albeit they are seven days behind the scheduled date. The team would like to thank all Singaporeans who have shown their support, concern and encouragement; which provided the team with the additional motivation especially during the trying days of waiting for good weather.

The Prime Minister has spoken with the team members and congratulated them on their success despite the difficulties the team had encountered the last two weeks.

Weather permitting, both the South Pole and the Vinson Teams are scheduled to leave Patriot Hills on Jan 10, 2000 for Punta Arenas. Their return travel to Singapore is scheduled as follows:

January 10 - Both teams to leave Punta Arenas for Santiago, Chile.
January 12 - Both teams to leave Santiago for New York.
January 13 - Both teams to leave New York for Singapore.
January 15 - Both teams scheduled to arrive at Changi Airport on SQ 25 at 7:05 am.
