SWISS ALPS EXPERIENCE

Reaching the top of Mount Blanc Du Tacol in Chamonix

Mount Vinson Massif team in Swiss Alps and Chamonix for their first overseas climbing trip….

May 16 - The Vinson team arrived at Zermatt, a famous climbing town in Switzerland. The team moved on to Chanonix, France to summit Mt. Blanc Du Tacol.

The objective was to pit their technical competence against glacial environment. Although all members are experienced climbers, they had to adapt their techniques to the more glacial terrain of Mt. Blanc Du Tacol.

The training was designed to assess each member’s performance under pressure and to orientate them to high altitudes and mountainous environment.

They were challenged by unpredictable storms and low temperatures conditions of up to minus 20OC.

Five of the six members successfully summit Mt. Blanc Du Tacol, without any physical injuries nor major equipment damage. One member had to turn back due to altitude sickness.

Communication testing did not go as planned as the mountainous environment caused reception interference.

Overall, the climb was well executed. The team are more confident of their skills and are now preparing for the next stage of training in North America in mid-July.
