Mount Cook, July 1999

Both the Vinson and South Pole team will go to Mount Cook for two weeks during the harsh winter season of New Zealand. It is said that the winter conditions at Mount Cook during the month of July are similar to that in the Antarctic.

This is when the Everest team members will impart their experience to the other expedition team members. This training further enhances co-ordination and camaraderie of the team.

In this trip, the team will put to test the following:

  • mountaineering skills
  • navigation skills
  • rescue techniques
  • winter conditioning
  • endurance
